Chief Warrant Officer A.R. Sargent, CD

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Sargent was born in Ottawa, ON, and joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1997 as an aircraft structures technician (ACS Tech). Upon completion of Basic Training, CWO Sargent was posted to 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in St-Hubert, QC, where he was enrolled at École nationale d’aérotechnique (ENA) to qualify TQ3 status. Upon completion of his TQ3 course in 1998, CWO Sargent was posted to the Aerospace Telecommunications Engineering and Support Squadron (ATESS) at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton, ON, to hone his trade skills.

In 2004, as a corporal, he was deployed as part of the CC130 Tactical Airlift Unit (TAU) to Camp Mirage in support of Operation (Op) ATHENA. Upon promotion to master corporal in 2005, CWO Sargent was posted to the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) in St-Jean, QC, as an instructor for both recruit and officer candidates. Promoted to sergeant in 2009, he was posted to 8 Air Maintenance Squadron (8 AMS) within the Employment and Training Office (ETO) as the Squadron Training IC, and later the Unit Occupational Advisor for both the aircraft structure (ACS) and avionics systems (AVS) trades.

In 2012, CWO Sargent was promoted to the rank of warrant officer and employed as the Aircraft Production Services Officer (APSO) and later the ACS / Aircraft Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Superintendent. During this time (2013) he deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, as part of Op ATTENTION as an air advisor attached to the 438 Air Expeditionary Wing (USAF) to assist in the development of the Afghan Air Force. For his efforts he earned a Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) Commendation.

Promoted to master warrant officer in 2016, he was selected to attend the Non-Commissioned Member Executive Professional Development Programme (NEPDP) at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, ON, earning a Certificate of General Military Studies; he would go on to complete a Bachelor of Military Arts and Science from RMC as well. In 2017, he was posted to the Strategic Joint Staff (SJS) at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) in Ottawa. During this timeframe he was deployed to Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert as the Station Warrant Officer.

Upon returning from CFS Alert in 2019, he attended a year-long French course at CFB Trenton. Promoted to his current rank in 2020, CWO Sargent was posted to 1 Wing HQ at CFB Kingston as the HQ CWO and the Tactical Aviation Capability Advisory Group (CAG) CWO for the CH146 Griffon and CH147 Chinook fleets. During his time in Kingston, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, as part of NATO Mission – Iraq, an advisory mission supporting non-commissioned officer leadership development within the Iraqi Security Forces.

In 2022, CWO Sargent was chosen to become the Royal Canadian Air Force Aerospace Warfare Centre (RCAF AWC) Formation CWO, located at CFB Trenton. In July of 2024, CWO Sargent will become the 8 Wing /CFB Trenton Chief Warrant Officer (WCWO).
