CFB Shilo, Canada’s premier training base, empowering the Canadian Army through agile, adaptive, and responsive support, while investing in community and family growth.

Located in southwestern Manitoba, 35 kilometres east of Brandon, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo has been the site of military activity in the region since 1910. The training area of CFB Shilo covers almost 40,000 hectares, capable of supporting training for large-scale major combat operations and both direct and indirect fires. It encompasses open sand dunes, aspen parkland and prairie vegetation with rolling terrain as well as flat open areas of mixed-grass prairie. It is the largest remaining area of native mixed grass prairie in Manitoba and one of the largest in Canada.

Through both world wars, Korea, Cold War, Afghanistan, and current operations Shilo is valued for its unique terrain and prairie climate.

Thousands of soldiers from Canada and from our allies, such as Germany and the United States, have honed their skills here. Home to 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and a training venue for Third Canadian Division Training Centre. Shilo is also an important training venue for 38 Canadian Brigade Group, 4 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, and other domestic partners in Corrections and RCMP. It is also the Home Station of the Royal Canadian Artillery.

Our workforce is recognized for its dedication and work ethic. Supporting units with medical, technical and communications expertise give our soldiers the foundation they need to be their best.
