Major-General J.W. Errington

MAJOR-GENERAL J.W. ERRINGTON, OMM, MSM, CD

Major-General J.W. (John) Errington joined the Canadian Forces directly from high school in 1990 from Courtenay, British Columbia, and subsequently commissioned into the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI).

Major-General Errington has commanded rifle, anti-armour, recce and airborne platoons; sub-units in the Canadian Army and CANSOFCOM and was a Commanding Officer of 3 PPCLI and a Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. At the formation level he commanded the Combat Training Centre and then was the Commandant of the Canadian Forces College.

Major-General Errington alternated his command appointments with staff appointments from the rank of Capt to BGen, predominantly in current operations or plans positions. He’s served time in CEFCOM HQ, Dwyer Hill Training Centre, twice in the Canadian Army HQ as G33 and COS Ops and now twice in the Strategic Joint Staff as Director Current Ops and Director General Plans.

Major-General Errington’s operational experience includes overseas deployments to Croatia, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Domestically he has deployed to floods and fires; conducted security for leader summits and the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Major-General Errington has had some unique honours throughout his career, serving in the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace, Commanding 3 PPCLI during the 100th Anniversary Commemorations and spending almost 4 years as the Director of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps.

Major-General Errington is currently the Commander of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre, he remains an avid sports fan, has three university aged daughters and a son in high school. He is supported by his wonderful and understanding partner Anita.
