The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade:
I am proud to announce that the government of Canada and the Atlantic provincial governments are joining forces to launch today the Atlantic trade and investment growth strategy. This is going to be making a difference in the lives of people. This collaborative approach will expand business activities between Atlantic Canada and international markets and strategically market the region as a whole to attract new foreign investments.
The number of exporters in the Atlantic Provinces will have doubled. Will go from approximately 1,700 exporters to 3,400. That's the goal for 2025. Forty per cent, forty per cent of our exporters will be selling in more than one international market. The value of Atlantic exports will have increased by 30 per cent, from approximately $35 billion to $45 billion. More global partners will choose to invest in Atlantic businesses and communities. These are ambitious but achievable goals.
Let's seize the moment, because we have a unique opportunity, let's be ambitious, this is Canada and let's make sure that we will work together so that trade will improve the lives of workers and families across the whole Atlantic Region.
