Inclusions East: Community and Opportunity

For nearly 50 years, Inclusions East has been building vital community and vocational supports for people with intellectual disabilities in eastern PEI. Now, based out of a newly renovated, fully modernized facility in Montague, the organization provides skills development and training through enterprise and day programming, employment services and community support, in addition to a growing residential services program. These resources empower clients to contribute to and participate in all aspects of community life.

The grand opening of the Kingswood Training Centre in 2023 marked a significant milestone for Inclusions East. The centre is equipped with a commercial kitchen and expanded workshop to deliver training in bakery and catering services, woodworking, and laser engraving. It also houses a retail space where clients can sell their wares and gain experience in sales and customer service. Close to 50 clients show up each day with enthusiasm and a commitment to learn, working alongside dedicated staff. Through hands-on experience in industrial and culinary arts, they are learning transferable skills to future employment, while also creating in-demand goods and services available for hire.

In addition to the innovative training and enterprise programs, the centre features life enrichment programming through the RISE Centre, a multi-sensory therapeutic Snoezelen Room, as well as community spaces and administration offices. The Kingswood Centre is not just brick and mortar. It is a welcoming gathering place for people of all abilities, where they are encouraged to foster lifelong friendships, find purpose, and nurture a sense of community.

Inclusions East has led with compassion for many years, and always with a clear understanding of the wider importance of building a fully inclusive economy in our region. The new facility helps to bolster that mission, providing meaningful vocational opportunities for people living with intellectual or dual disabilities, all in an environment that puts their safety and dignity first.

And the organization continues to look ahead, so stay tuned for new initiatives as it grows into its new multi-purpose space.

Inclusions East is a model of what makes a strong, healthy community. Canadians of all abilities deserve the chance to participate, contribute to, and thrive in all aspects of community living.

ACOA is proud to help position communities for a brighter, more inclusive future.
