Businesses and Beaches Moving to a New Beat in Inverness County
News Release
Government of Canada Supporting Tourism in the Municipality of the County of Inverness
May 25, 2016 – Port Hood, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Today, MP Rodger Cuzner was at the Municipal Building in Port Hood to announce $701,769 in Government of Canada funding to support two projects in the Municipality of the County of Inverness.
The town of Port Hood will see improvements made to the business and beachfront corridor thanks to a contribution of $607,929 in non-repayable funding from ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF). This initiative will increase tourism in the community by creating a new brand identity to be used in advertising the areas must-see attractions, most noteworthy being five picturesque beaches easily accessible to the public. The funding will also go towards redesigning business facades in the area adding a welcome lift to store fronts and street scape improvements to community shared infrastructure. These enhancements will help the community reinforce Port Hood as a seaside destination, attract more visitors, strengthen local businesses and raise the bar on product and experience offered along the Ceilidh and Cabot Trail.
The Municipality of the County of Inverness is receiving $93,840 in non-repayable funding from ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP) to help with the costs of the planning and implementation of Canada’s Musical Coast brand development and product planning. With multiple beaches, waterfalls and trails, as well as Canada’s only true links golf course, the area offers a quality experience to visitors and residents alike. The creation of a new branding strategy, website, and new wayfinding signage program based on the spectacular views and opportunities for coastal adventure in the area, will highlight why Inverness County should be a must-see on tourists to-do lists.
