Muscling up for the community

News Release

Government of Canada supports infrastructure in rural communities

June 25, 2016 – Englishtown, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

The Englishtown Community Hall Association is installing a new roof on their hall. Thanks to support from the Government of Canada, they will also be able to make repairs to the basement to avoid water damage. These renovations will ensure that the hall, a much-utilized facility—will continue to operate at full capacity.

The Honorable Mark Eyking, Member of Parliament for Sydney – Victoria, announced a $20,550 contribution of Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) funding for the Englishtown Community Hall Association, during their annual mussel festival.

The Englishtown Community Hall hosts everything from evening yoga lessons to a Celtic Colours festival concert. The location is also well-known as the headquarters for the annual Englishtown Mussel Festival. The festival started as a local fundraiser for the hall and now draws hundreds of people from the surrounding area, as well as boasting a 5km run and a VELO bike ride.

The CIP150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The program is expected to boost economic activity through infrastructure investments, build community-based partnerships, while supporting the Government’s priorities to promote a clean-growth economy and ensure a better future for Indigenous peoples.
