Forest Glen Benefits from Canada 150 Infrastructure Program

News Release

Government of Canada supports infrastructure improvements in rural Nova Scotia

Forest Glen, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

The Forest Glen Community Center has received $20,026 in funding through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) to assist with upgrades to the building. During a visit to the Center on Monday night, Colin Fraser, Member of Parliament for West Nova, delivered the news on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

In operation since 1952, the Forest Glen Community Centre organizes and hosts a variety of functions including  community meetings and socials, fundraisers, group functions, dinners and wedding receptions. The non-repayable contribution is assisting the Centre as it completes improvements to its facility on Highway 340 outside of Yarmouth.

Improvements include the installation of a new metal roof and two heat pumps, plumbing upgrades, the removal of north-facing windows and refinishing the north side of the building with vinyl siding. The Centre will also add energy efficient LED lighting, a drop ceiling on the main floor, a weather-tight exterior front door, a wheelchair ramp and landing, toilets and safety rails, and light weight tables and chairs.

Additional support for the project includes $12,000 from the Government of Nova Scotia through Communities, Culture and Heritage; $3,000 from the Municipality of Clare; $3,000 from the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth; and, $5,027 generated through the fundraising efforts of the Forest Glen Community Center.

Investments in local public infrastructure improve quality of life, strengthen communities – large and small – across Atlantic Canada and encourage residents to participate in their communities. $33.2 million in Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program funding is being invested in Atlantic Canada by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) for key community infrastructure improvements.
