Government of Canada Invests in Grand-Pré National Historic Site

March 9, 2017 – Grand-Pré, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Targeting future growth in the tourism sector, La Société Promotion Grand-Pré is developing new cultural tourism products and experiences for visitors to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site.

The project involves the development of five products and events recommended in la Société’s Strategic and Operational Plan: storytelling, marionette production, special events, Acadian genealogy, and a white glove artifact experience.

These new cultural tourism initiatives will serve to attract the modern traveler looking for experiential tourism opportunities and interactive experiences. History enthusiasts will also enjoy a richer experience as a result of this project.

The Government of Canada is providing a $243,366 non-repayable contribution to the project through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)’s Business Development Program. The Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, announced the support today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

Additional support for the project includes $38,100 from la Société Promotion Grand-Pré.

Project funding stems from the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) which supports the Government of Canada’s Roadmap for Canada’s Official Languages 2013-2018 and its mandate to ensure the vitality of English and French in Canada by focusing on three key pillars: education, immigration and communities.

Through the EDI, ACOA provides funding to help support, strengthen and diversify the economic base of Atlantic Canada’s Francophone communities, the official language minority community in the region.
