Government of Canada supports Experiential and Cultural Tourism on Northern Peninsula

News Release

New Theatre Facility planned for Gros Morne Theatre Festival

June 3, 2017 – Cow Head, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Investments by the Government of Canada in Theatre Newfoundland Labrador (TNL) will help further promote experiential and cultural tourism on the Northern Peninsula, enhance visitor experiences and allow the theatre company to capitalize on growth opportunities.

Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, has announced $325,000 from ACOA and $321,399 from Canadian Heritage to support the engineering, design and financial planning for a proposed new multi-functional theatre facility for the Gros Morne Theatre Festival.

This project represents phase one of a two phase initiative.  Pending the results of phase one, the second phase would include construction of new infrastructure, including a multi-functional theatre which would complement the existing Warehouse Theatre, provide the capacity to accommodate the hundreds of visitors turned away each year due to limited seating space, and strengthen the theatre company’s sustainability.
