Funding supports wastewater upgrades to reduce environmental impacts

September 29, 2017 – Halifax, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Helping Atlantic Canadian businesses succeed in global markets is a priority for the Government of Canada. Firms involved in the export of value-added seafood products are among those helping to grow the economy and create good, middle-class jobs in Nova Scotia.

Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margarets, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced a $1 million repayable contribution through ACOA’s Business Development Program for Shelburne’s Kenney & Ross Limited (K&R).

This support will enable the company to improve its wastewater infrastructure, making its operations greener to reduce overall impact on the environment. Modifications include an equalization tank, new screening system, and a seawater dilution system designed to meet Environment Canada standards. The $2.3 million dollar upgrade will contribute to the company’s growth and profitability, and safeguard 48 jobs at one of the area’s largest employers.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, with strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s strong export potential and skilled workforce.
