Cardwell Farms Continues Growth with New Equipment

Helping innovative small and medium sized enterprises grow their business and enter into new markets is critical to enhancing Atlantic Canada’s economic success. Thanks to investments of $117,861 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Business Development Program and $70,717 from the Government of New Brunswick, Cardwell Farms Compost Products Inc. will purchase processing equipment that will lead to improved efficiencies and help keep good quality jobs in Penobsquis.
Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Tourism and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Bill Fraser, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, on behalf of Economic Development Minister the Honourable Francine Landry, who is also the minister responsible for Opportunities NB, made the announcement today.
In addition to the purchase of new equipment to further refine the screening of waste material, the government investments will help the company build a facility to house the new machinery. These investments will lead to improved production efficiencies, greater export sales and will also help maintain existing jobs in the Penobsquis area.
Cardwell Farms Compost Products Inc. uses by-product to create organic compost products and other goods for the horticultural and agricultural industries. The company processes approximately 65,000 tonnes of various organic inputs annually, which are marketed in Canada and the United States.
These investments build on the federal and provincial governments’ Atlantic Growth Strategy designed to help Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs compete internationally, grow their businesses and create jobs at home.
