New equipment fuels growth for Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company

News Release

October 10, 2017– Waterville, N.B. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Supporting businesses in rural communities helps create opportunities for business growth and good paying jobs for the middle-class and those looking to join it.

The Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company will boost productivity to accommodate the growing demand for its products, including a new line of popcorn, thanks to a $437,500 investment from the Government of Canada. This investment will also help increase export capacity and is expected to create up to 14 new jobs.

TJ Harvey, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), was joined by Ryan Albright, President of the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company, to make the announcement today.

The investment will enable the company to purchase new equipment, including sorters, conveyors, popcorn poppers and a bagger. This project marks Phase 2 of a 9,000 square foot expansion announced in January 2017, which has helped the company improve efficiencies and optimize operating space to increase production. ACOA’s repayable contribution is being made through its Business Development Program.

This project builds on the Government of Canada’s commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, by providing strategic investments for projects that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, thriving agricultural sector, and skilled workforce.
