Dalhousie Receives Funds to Enhance Community Infrastructure

News release

May 14, 2018 – Dalhousie, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

All Canadians deserve to live in inclusive and vibrant communities where they can connect with their friends and neighbours. Investing in local community infrastructure will improve existing facilities, build stronger community ties and strengthen the middle class and those seeking to join it.

René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche, today announced an investment of $230,000 for a project in Dalhousie. The work involved upgrading the dehumidification and ventilation system as well as upgrading the lighting system throughout the Recreaplex to improve its energy efficiency.

Today’s announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

This project was partly funded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), which was delivered in Atlantic Canada through ACOA. This investment, which honours Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, helped create jobs, boost economic activity and strengthen communities, while celebrating Canada’s rich heritage and history.

Quotes

“Cultural and recreational activities and facilities form an essential part of every community. The Government of Canada recognizes that investing in them celebrates our heritage and improves the quality of life of all Canadians. These renewed facilities not only respond to the demand for community infrastructure improvements, but also provide us an opportunity to celebrate the people of this great country.”

- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

“Strong communities are built on strong, modern infrastructure. The enhancements to the Recreaplex will have a significant positive impact for community recreation in Dalhousie. This infrastructure investment will benefit our community and its members for years to come.”

René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche

Quick facts

  • CIP 150 was a $300-million fund established to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together, with a portion of the funding delivered by a regional development agency in each region of the country. The program came to a close on March 31, 2018.

  • CIP 150 was designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public.

  • Projects supported by the program were chosen based on assessment criteria including construction-readiness and public benefit, the extent to which funding was leveraged from other sources and linkages to Canada 150.
