Nautics Group Makes no Secret of Reasons for Nova Scotia Relocation
News release

Covert surveillance company targets North American market for development and export of public safety technology
September 21, 2018 – Bedford, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Atlantic Canada has a thriving innovation ecosystem that is successfully providing the supports necessary to help businesses excel in technologically advanced global economic markets, which encourages growth and strengthens the middle class. Nautics Group recognizes the competitive advantages the region offers, and is in the process of relocating its covert surveillance technologies manufacturing business to Nova Scotia.
Darrell Samson, Member of Parliament for Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook, announced a repayable contribution of $259,000 on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The funding is through ACOA’s Business Development Program, which supports small and medium-sized companies capitalizing on innovations to become more competitive.
The assistance will allow the company to relocate its headquarters to Nova Scotia from Australia to focus on increasing sales across North America. The province was chosen as the new base of operations due to its proximity to primary export target markets as well as access to a highly skilled, educated workforce.
Nautics Group is establishing units to lead research and development as well as engineering and operations to create next generation surveillance products to protect citizens against intentional, co-ordinated acts of harm. The relocation will result in the creation of five new jobs, as the company plans to hire engineers to develop and commercialize its surveillance technologies for military, government and police force applications.
This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation ecosystem, and skilled workforce.
