Clean Tech Company Jaza Energy Expanding into New Markets

News release

November 19, 2018 – Sackville, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Global demand for clean technology and renewable energy is growing quickly. Driving innovation in clean technology will help meet the world’s future energy needs and create good middle-class jobs today. That is why the Government of Canada is helping Jaza Energy Inc. with two projects to expand into new markets and hire staff, while building a network of solar micro-grids in remote communities in Tanzania to provide thousands of homes with clean energy.

Jaza Energy Inc. is adding 60 renewable energy hub sites to its existing network, making electricity more affordable and accessible in remote communities.  A second project involves the hiring of a Senior Software Developer. These projects will create two jobs in Atlantic Canada and increase the company’s revenue.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade and Member of Parliament for Beauséjour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The Government of Canada is investing a total of $710,000 in Jaza Energy for the two projects. ACOA’s Business Development Program will contribute $550,000, while the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) is contributing up to $160,000 to support the renewable hub project.

Investments in clean technology are part of the Government of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan, a multi-year strategy to create growing, innovative businesses with global reach, to strengthen regional economies, and lead to good jobs for all Canadians. This investment also builds on the Atlantic Growth Strategy’s commitment to promote clean growth through the development and export of new clean technologies.
