Company creating innovative equipment to capitalize on export marine markets

December 13, 2018 – Dartmouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Discovering innovative ways to remain competitive in the technologically advanced oil and gas industry helps companies increase profitability, expand their customer base, and continue to contribute to the region’s economic success. Driven to find a way to evolve into value added manufacturing to meet the needs of its customers, Moog Focal Technologies is investing in further research and development to create a new, in-demand swivel that will increase its export potential.

The company is working to develop, test and certify shorter, lighter, and more cost effective swivels to take advantage of growth opportunities in the offshore market thanks to support from the Government of Canada. Swivels are used on oil production vessels to ensure that all fluids (liquids and gas), controls, and power are transferred safely to and from the subsea oilfield and the oil gathering vessel on the surface.

Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced support to Moog Focal to further its product development and commercialization efforts.

The Government of Canada provided a $1,337,145 conditionally repayable contribution through ACOA’s Business Development Program for the project.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation network, and skilled workforce.
