SkyHawk Telematics Uses Artificial Intelligence to Provide Better Business Solutions

News release

Support for growing technology company will improve fleet management for clients throughout North America

January 16, 2019 – St. John’s (NL) – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Innovative companies help drive economic growth, create well-paying middle class jobs and deliver business solutions that improve other sectors. That is why the Government of Canada is helping SkyHawk Telematics build and implement new artificial intelligence technology that will allow the company to help clients improve operational efficiencies, and enhance SkyHawk's ability to compete in the growing telematics industry.

SkyHawk offers technology solutions that provide 'real-time’ information to support improvements to operational visibility, efficiency and safety for a wide range of customers. Through this new project, the company will increase its telematics capabilities by integrating advanced analytics and machine learning inside its cloud-based ConnectAnywhereTM solution.

Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced a conditionally repayable investment of $1.4 million from ACOA’s Atlantic Innovation Fund for SkyHawk Telematics. The funds will enable the company to enhance its software to provide more accurate and timely information for utility and public works departments to better manage their fleets.

SkyHawk Telematics is a Newfoundland and Labrador owned and operated company that was founded in 2003. The company initially provided satellite monitoring systems for commercial marine vessels. In 2012, SkyHawk changed its focus towards the asset monitoring market and is now an established industry leader, specializing in advanced fleet and asset monitoring solutions for governments, public works, power utilities and heavy work truck sectors throughout North America.

This investment supports the Atlantic Growth Strategy, one way the Government of Canada is working to achieve its Innovation and Skills Plan outcomes in this region by supporting innovative businesses that are commercializing new technology and creating well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.
