News release

Government of Canada fueling community revitalization and creating the conditions for the local economy to thrive

January 23, 2023 · Halifax, Nova Scotia · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Fairview, Nova Scotia is home to over 17,000 residents—and a community hub that helps them thrive. The Fairview Resource Centre delivers programs ranging from senior and parenting support to skill-building and assistance with basic needs. To help the centre extend its free services to more members of the community, the Government of Canada is investing in accessibility and efficiency upgrades at the centre this year.

Today, the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Member of Parliament for Halifax West, announced an investment of $445,995 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for the Fairview Resource Centre. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This support will allow the Fairview Resource Centre to undertake renovations to improve the building’s accessibility, energy efficiency and capacity to offer programs to the community. A lift will be added to allow people with mobility challenges to access the community kitchen and programs on the second floor. New windows, doors, roofing, insulation, and an improved HVAC system will create a comfortable and safe environment for this important community fixture.

The CCRF was launched in June 2021. The fund provides $500 million over two years to Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs) to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces. The Government of Canada is committed to investing in shared spaces to make them safer, greener and more accessible. This will help stimulate local economies, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for Canadians.
