Supporting adventure seekers of this year’s Cain’s Quest

Atlantic Canada’s tourism organizations are vital to the region’s economy and contribute to thousands of local jobs in our communities. The Government of Canada is investing to help Cain’s Quest Inc. (Cain’s Quest) in Labrador grow the tourism sector and bring people and communities together.

Federal and provincial investment in Cain's Quest to strengthen tourism, communities

Today, Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, announced a contribution of $125,000 through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) to support the Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race – a grueling journey through roughly 3,500-kilometres of Labrador’s wilderness. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy, and Technology also announced contributions of $117,651 on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This investment is helping to promote Cain’s Quest to attract snowmobilers and visitors from around the globe. The contribution will also support safety and event management activities. This project will help Cain’s Quest to deliver a safe and enjoyable visitor experience, showcasing Labrador’s unique landscapes and bringing more people into local businesses along the race route.

Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to ensuring Atlantic Canadian tourism organizations have the tools they need to grow and reach new markets.

Quick facts

  • Cain's Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race is a project that was first piloted in 2006, motivated by a team of volunteers with an idea for a special event that would capitalize on the growing winter tourism market and showcase Labrador's excellent snowmobile conditions. Over the past 10 races, Cain's Quest has registered racers from Canada, the United States, France, Finland and Switzerland.

  • The race is an approximately 3,500-kilometre journey through the Labrador wilderness.

  • The race route begins in Labrador City and includes stops at 18 checkpoints to complete what is called a Labrador circuit; it goes through Churchill Falls, central Labrador, the south coast, Nain and finishes in Labrador West.
