Atlantic Canada’s position as a leader in clean technology solutions is a significant competitive advantage for businesses and key industries. The Government of Canada is helping The Smart Energy Company (TSEC) seize opportunities to sell its innovative micro solar farm product to farms in Ontario and internationally.

Today, Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John – Rothesay, announced an investment of $500,000 in TSEC through ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program to help with these marketing efforts. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Rothiemay Farms, a new Smart Energy client.

The funding will support marketing activities to promote the company’s micro solar farm and battery solutions, which have been specifically designed to withstand harsh winter climates. Overall, the project will help TSEC reach new markets in Ontario in 2024 and expand into United States markets in 2025.

Today’s announcement highlights how the Government of Canada is contributing to Atlantic Canada’s momentum by strengthening communities, creating new opportunities, and setting the stage for a strong, sustainable future.

With this investment, The Smart Energy Company will be able to connect farmers at home and abroad with the kind of top-notch clean energy solutions they need to green their operations. Your Government of Canada is doing its part to support clean tech development so we can create more jobs and build a greener future for all Canadians, from coast to coast to coast.”

- The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

“Supporting projects like this one helps spur Canada’s shift to innovative clean technologies and builds sustainability and resilience in key sectors like agriculture. I’m pleased that that the Government of Canada, through ACOA is supporting TSEC’s efforts for greater business growth, while helping farmers decarbonize their operations - creating healthier communities that work for everyone.”

Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John-Rothesay

"We are so proud to have been helping New Brunswick farmers reduce or eliminate their electricity bill by harvesting the power of the sun. Reducing a farmer's input cost makes good business sense and doing so with a renewable source of energy makes great sense for the planet. Having built more than half of the solar that exists in the province today, we're excited to be taking our manufactured-in-New-Brunswick solution to new markets. This support from the federal government, along with additional private investment, is critical for our expansion plans."
- Mark McAloon, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Owner, The Smart Energy Company
