Atlantic Canadian companies seek new ways to boost productivity at IMTS 2024

Government of Canada supports delegation travelling to Chicago to enhance productivity through innovation.

Increasing productivity in Atlantic Canada is crucial for enhancing Canada's international competitiveness. By investing in innovation and advanced manufacturing technologies, Atlantic Canadian companies are positioning themselves as leaders in the global market.

Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, praised delegates from 22 Atlantic Canadian companies who participated in the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago, Illinois. Participants at the show had the opportunity to network with over 100,000 professionals and vendors from the manufacturing industry, attend conferences offering tangible insights and solutions for enhancing productivity, quality, and overall equipment effectiveness, and discover the latest advancements in automation, additive manufacturing, CNC machining.

Attending this event was part of a broader initiative led by ACOA, the Alliance of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, and the National Research Council, to help Atlantic Canadian firms explore and invest in new technologies to boost their productivity and profitability. Creating an environment that supports the adoption of cutting-edge solutions not only boosts business efficiency but also drives sustainable economic growth throughout the region.

  • The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) is the largest trade show in the Western Hemisphere, attracting participants from more than 110 countries, and showcases the latest in automation, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, tooling, and technologies that are reshaping the world of manufacturing.

  • IMTS 2024, took place from September 9 to 14, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois.

  • ACOA is providing a non-repayable contribution of $534,769 through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program to support Atlantic Canadian firms attending five prominent automation and manufacturing shows, including IMTS. The National Research Council of Canada, through the Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), is also contributing $100,000. NRC is the primary national agency of the Government of Canada dedicated to science and technology research and development.

  • In January 2024, the Government of Canada announced a renewed Team Canada engagement strategy to promote Canada’s interests in and with the United States. Participation in IMTS 2024 represents a key element of the #TeamCanadaUSA strategy, which aims to foster and enhance Canada's relationships our most important trading partner.
