82 pellets of suspected cocaine seized from internal carrier at Edmonton International Airport
News Release
May 5, 2016 Edmonton, Alberta Canada Border Services Agency
On April 30, at the Edmonton International Airport, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted a traveller returning to Canada who had ingested 82 pellets of suspected cocaine with a total weight of 978.6 grams.
Upon confirmation that the traveller had ingested drugs, CBSA officers arranged for transportation to hospital for immediate medical attention as the traveller’s health and safety was compromised by this type of concealment. Once the traveller safely expelled the suspected cocaine under medical supervision, the drugs were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The traveller will appear in Leduc Provincial Court on May 5, 2016.

Quote
“Ingesting narcotics to evade detection is an extremely dangerous practice for the courier, regardless of how well the pellets are wrapped. It is a life threatening situation that requires immediate medical intervention. This seizure demonstrates how the CBSA plays a vital role in preventing crime in Canada and how diligent our officers are in the interception of smuggled illicit substances, no matter which concealment method is used.”
