Attention all boaters crossing into Canada on Lake Osoyoos, British Columbia

News Release

With summer now well underway, boating season has kicked off on Lake Osoyoos, British Columbia (B.C.) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) would like to remind all boaters of their reporting obligations under the Customs Act when traversing the border into Canada.

The master of the vessel must report their arrival to the CBSA without delay by calling the Telephone Reporting Centre (TRC) from a designated Telephone Reporting Site-Marine. In Osoyoos, the designated reporting site is located at the Osoyoos Starlite Marina. Using the phone provided at the reporting site, the master is required to call the TRC at 1-888-226-7277 to obtain clearance.

Failure to comply with CBSA reporting requirements may lead to detention, forfeiture of the vessel and/or monetary penalty or criminal prosecution.

When reporting to the CBSA, masters must also report where their vessel has last been in the water to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species, such as zebra or quagga mussels.

Visiting a designated marine telephone reporting site is a quick and easy way to ensure compliance with the law when entering Canada by water. We wish all boaters a safe and fun-filled summer out on the lake this year.”
