Attention all boaters crossing into Canada on Rainy River and Rainy Lake

News Release

With boating season now well underway on the Rainy River and Rainy Lake (ON), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) would like to remind all boaters of their reporting obligations under the Customs Act when traversing the border into Canada.

The master of the vessel must report their arrival to the CBSA without delay by calling the Telephone Reporting Centre (TRC) from a designated Telephone Reporting Site-Marine. In Fort Frances, the designated reporting site is located at the Sorting Gap Marina and Rainy Lake Sports CAN-OP. Using the phone provided at the reporting site, the master is required to call the TRC at 1-888-226-7277 to obtain clearance. All passengers must remain with vessel until the master or person reporting has obtained a release number from the TRC.

Failure to comply with CBSA reporting requirements may lead to detention, forfeiture of the vessel and/or monetary penalty or criminal prosecution.

Quote

“Visiting a designated marine telephone reporting site is a quick and easy way to ensure compliance with the law when entering Canada by water. Boaters can now also take advantage of the new pre-registration feature by emailing information to the CBSA prior to their trip, which speeds up processing when they call in to report their entry to Canada. Visit the CBSA web site for details.”
