CBSA investigation leads to criminal charges for firearms-related offences

Firearms and weapons are high-risk commodities and their interdiction is a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) enforcement priority. Today, the CBSA announced that charges have been laid against Curtis Waldner, a resident of Forrest, Manitoba, for the importation of prohibited firearms suppressors, also known as silencers.
As a result of an investigation conducted by the CBSA Criminal Investigations Integrated Firearms Enforcement Team in Winnipeg, the CBSA laid the following charges under the Customs Act and Criminal Code:
- Customs Act Section 153(a): false statements
- Customs Act. Section 159(1): smuggling into Canada of prohibited devices
- Customs Act Section 155: possession, disposal, selling or transfer of illegally imported goods
- Criminal Code Section 103(1)(a): importation of prohibited devices
- Criminal Code Section 86(2): unsafe storage
- Criminal Code 99(1): trafficking prohibited devices
