Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) Newsletter: January 2025 Edition

Colleagues,

We want to start by wishing you a happy, healthy and successful year in 2025.

Together, we have raised more than $25,000,000 through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) to date. Your efforts are making a tremendous difference in our communities across the country.

Recognizing and Celebrating Unsung Heroes

Thank you to all the teams who submitted nominations for the 2024 Chair’s Cup awards. We’re excited to announce the winners during the National Awards, Recognition and Closing Ceremony, scheduled on February 13, 2025, at 1 pm (ET).

If you know an individual or team who has gone above and beyond or made an impactful contribution to meet your campaign's goals, submit their name for a recognition. All nominees in this category will receive a personalized recognition certificate.

Did you know?

There is still time to give! Ask your colleagues to consider making one last impactful donation through the GCWCC. Their support can be the difference for a family struggling to find stable housing, a woman rebuilding her life, or someone accessing essential chronic health support.

Every dollar makes a profound impact—and we need your help now more than ever to meet the growing needs of our communities. This will provide not just immediate assistance, but also the hope that so many Canadians need as they face tough times.

Download the shoulder season toolkit today and help us raise awareness that employees have until March 31st to make a one-time fully paid donation (credit card or PayPal) through ePledge The toolkit includes an all-staff message template and social media assets to support your communications efforts. All donations made during this time will also count toward your 2024 departmental fundraising goals.

Will you join the over 50,000 donors who have already supported their communities?

* Sprint Week – Thank you!

In December, the Chair and Co-Chair issued a sprint week challenge – from #GivingTuesday through until the payroll deduction deadline – encouraging a major push for donations through the GCWCC.

Although we had previously noted that more than $709,400 was raised, this was in fact the 1-day total raised on December 3 for #GivingTuesday.

We are thrilled to announce that through their incredible generosity during sprint week – from November 28 to December 6 – employees across the public service raised just over $2,260,000. What an incredible impact this will have on our communities across the country!

We want to sincerely thank all campaign teams for raising awareness of the impacts our contributions make in the lives of Canadians who are struggling.

Perspectives with Paul Thompson: GCWCC Edition

The Campaign Chair recently recorded a special GCWCC podcast as part of his “Perspectives with DM Paul Thompson” series. His special guests included Nancy Hamzawi (2024 Campaign Co-Chair), along with Kia Goutte and Justine Ciolacu, two public servants who candidly share how their lives were changed because of the community, social and health supports they received. We invite you to listen to this inspiring episode here.

Your donations matter!

The GCWCC Youth Council Innovation Working Group aims to deliver new, innovative ideas that promote the values of the GCWCC

The Innovation Working Group is proud to soft launch the Time Tracking Initiative in the 2024 Campaign. This initiative will help acknowledge the important, non-traditional ways public servants contribute to the Campaign. Primarily, this initiative will focus on donations of time, but it will also track in-kind donations given through workplace events.

To learn more about the Time Tracking Initiative, or the Innovation Working Group, please contact Grace MacDougall, Indigenous Services Canada, Innovation Working Group Lead: grace.macdougall@sac-isc.gc.ca.
