Critical minerals are the building blocks for the future of our green and digital economy. As a trusted supplier of responsibly sourced mining products, Canada is working to leverage its resource wealth, environmental stewardship, industrial know-how and trade relations to meet the rising global demand for critical minerals and value-added products.

Canada is already a top global producer of many critical minerals and has the capacity to produce much more.

Critical minerals are important

The global demand for critical minerals is growing rapidly.

As a trusted supplier of mining products, Canada can support a green and digital global economy by leveraging our:

  • resource wealth
  • environmental stewardship
  • industrial know-how
  • trade relations

The growing demand for critical minerals represents an opportunity for industrial diversification, high-quality employment and sustainable socioeconomic development in every province and territory, including rural, remote and Indigenous communities. Through the creation of sustainable jobs, critical mineral value chains can also help support Canada’s just transition toward a net-zero emissions economy.

According to the International Energy Agency, the total market size of the critical minerals needed for the green energy transition could grow almost seven times between 2020 and 2030.
