Privacy Notice Statement

The application for the Prime Minister’s Youth Council requires that you provide the Government of Canada with personal information, including your age, address, contact information, gender identity, and official language preference, along with relevant life experiences and/or interests.

Should you choose, you can also opt to provide additional personal information, such as your social media information or the average you achieved for your most recent level of education. Any questions in the application that are optional are clearly identified as such. Choosing to not provide responses to any or all optional questions will not disqualify you from being considered for the Prime Minister’s Youth Council.

The personal information you provide in this application will be used for three purposes:

  1. To select members of the Prime Minister’s Youth Council;
  2. To identify candidates for other engagement opportunities offered by the Government of Canada beyond the Prime Minister’s Youth Council (such as participating on another youth council or as a youth participant at a government meeting or event), if you consent to this in your application; and,
  3. For statistical, research, evaluation, and reporting purposes.

The personal information provided in your application will be collected by the Youth Secretariat of the Privy Council Office. This information may be shared with other Canadian government institutions in accordance with subsection 8(2) of the Privacy Act and will only be accessed by parties directly involved in the above activities, including the Prime Minister and his office. The collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by the Youth Secretariat of the Privy Council Office is done in accordance with the federal Privacy Act, which protects its confidentiality.

The Privacy Act also gives you the right to access your personal information and request corrections where you believe there is an error or omissions. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner about the handling of your personal information.

Use of a third party service provider

The application for the Prime Minister’s Youth Council uses the services of a third party service provider, Hosted in Canada Surveys, an online survey tool that is not the property of the Government of Canada and is therefore not subject to the Privacy Act. Rather, Hosted in Canada Surveys is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which establishes rules to govern the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in a manner that recognizes the right of privacy of individuals with respect to their personal information and the need of organizations to collect, use or disclose personal information.

When you submit your application to the Prime Minister’s Youth Council, Hosted in Canada Surveys collects your responses and stores them for the Youth Secretariat of the Privy Council Office. The Privy Council Office is responsible for this information and manages it.
