Appointed advisors

We committed to doing what was necessary to ensure this process moved forward in the right way, through meaningful consultations, and to properly address all the concerns raised in the decision of the Federal Court of Appeal. We appointed a Federal Representative to oversee the consultation and accommodation process and also appointed a marine technical advisor to the National Energy Board (NEB).

Meet the federal representative on Indigenous consultations

The Honourable Frank Iacobucci

Former Supreme Court Justice the Honourable Frank Iacobucci oversaw the process, provided independent advice and guidance to the government on how to deliver meaningful consultations with Indigenous groups, and ensured this process moved ahead as the Court defined.

Marine Technical Advisor

Mr. John A. Clarkson

As the marine technical advisor to the NEB, Mr. Clarkson provided expert advice on marine issues, including impacts to the environment and species at risk from marine traffic. His expertise fed into the NEB’s official reconsideration report, which was published on February 22, 2019.
