Freshwater policy leadership

The Canada Water Agency provides whole-of-government solutions to freshwater challenges and supports freshwater decision-making through policy advice.

Futures and foresight 

The Canada Water Agency leverages innovative approaches, like futures and foresight methods, to facilitate long-term thinking. These methods allow the Agency to envision desired freshwater futures, while foresight provides a pathway to arrive at those futures. Adopting a long-term focus helps ensure that today's decisions support the protection of freshwater resources for generations to come.

International water policy

The Canada Water Agency represents the Government of Canada’s interests in international freshwater forums and plays a constructive role in ongoing international efforts to address global freshwater challenges. The Agency is also building international partnerships to share knowledge and experience and to promote international leadership on freshwater issues.

Parliamentary affairs, Cabinet affairs and strategic policy

The Canada Water Agency leads on developing briefing materials and monitoring parliamentary activities related to fresh water.  

The Agency also develops freshwater-related Treasury Board submissions, memoranda to Cabinet, and budget proposals.
