Hello everyone!

Language is a vital part of our culture.

It defines who we are, our identity and our place in the world.

Today, most of the Indigenous languages spoken in Canada are endangered and Canada is committed to taking urgent action.

This includes working with Indigenous People to co-develop legislation that will help preserve, revitalize and promote Indigenous languages in Canada.

This is a fundamental step to Canada’s reconciliation with Indigenous People.

And we are proud to join the world in marking the International Year of Indigenous Languages.

Together—as a global community—we can continue to strive for a strong future for Indigenous peoples for generations to come.
