His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh had strong commitments and connections with Canada through many honorary military positions and his patronage or presidency of numerous organizations and charities. He was also known for his creation of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award that has benefitted Canadian youth since 1963. His Royal Highness visited Canada many times on both official tours and private working visits.
