Minister Joly issues statement on Vaisakhi

I would like to extend my warmest best wishes to the Sikh community and to everyone celebrating Vaisakhi today.

Vaisakhi marks the founding of the Khalsa, and is one of the most important holidays in the Sikh faith. The beginning of a new year and new harvest season is also celebrated on Vaisakhi in many parts of India and around the world.

The many parades and gatherings taking place across Canada give all Canadians an opportunity to celebrate Vaisakhi and the many contributions of Sikh Canadians to our rich and vibrant cultural heritage.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage I am proud to wish happiness, good health, and prosperity on this Vaisakhi.
