First Nations' Cultural Traditions to Make Summer Waves

The Government of Canada is supporting the Montreal First Peoples’ Festival 2016
June 14, 2016 – Montréal – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced a grant of $105,000 for the 26th edition of the First Peoples’ Festival, which will take place in Montréal from August 3 to 10, 2016.
This sum, made available through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will enable the general public to appreciate the talent of Aboriginal artists in various disciplines ranging from traditional dancing to media arts.

- The Montréal First Peoples’ Festival is the work of Land InSights. It’s eight days of festivities that allow audiences to experience, discover and share the heritage of the First Nations.
- The 2016 edition of the event offers various activities and music, song, dance and theatre performances as well as poetry readings and storytelling. In addition, there will be media and visual arts productions, including about fifty video screenings.
- The First Peoples’ Festival is the biggest of its kind in Québec. It attracts about 50,000 spectators and showcases the talent of some 150 aboriginal artists from Québec, Canada and abroad.
