Francophone Music in the Spotlight in the Quartier des spectacles

June 8, 2017 – Montréal – Department of Canadian Heritage and Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), today announced Government of Canada support for the FrancoFolies de Montréal, which will be held from June 8 to 18, 2017.
The Department of Canadian Heritage announced that funding of $175,000 has been provided to the FrancoFolies de Montréal for its 2017 event. This support from the Canada Arts Presentation Fund will help enhance the programming and highlight Francophone music, as well as the artists who create and perform it.
This year, Canadian Heritage is providing an additional $400,000 in funding through the Canada 150 Fund for a major celebration highlighting Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27. To mark the occasion, the Parterre symphonique will host a huge picnic, complete with performances of dance and world music.
CED announced that a non-repayable contribution of $650,000 has been provided to the FrancoFolies through the Quebec Economic Development Program to support promotion and overseas marketing of the 2017 and 2018 festivals.
Support from CED also helped the FrancoFolies develop a new immersive activity for 2017: the Bal Pop’, which will let visitors experience a cabaret club like those found in France. The program for this activity includes a stage with “bal musette” musical programming, a dance floor, French-inspired dishes, a refreshment stall and typically Parisian décor.

Every year, the FrancoFolies de Montréal presents more than 200 shows and activities that feature Francophone songs in a wide variety of musical genres.

This major international festival will present over a thousand artists from Quebec, elsewhere in Canada and abroad. Emerging artists account for a large part of the programming.

More than a million visitors are expected at this 29th edition of the FrancoFolies for around 150 outdoor concerts and 50 indoor shows.
