Statement by Minister Joly on Eid al-Adha
Statements
OTTAWA, August 31, 2017
This evening marks the beginning of Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest holidays in the Muslim calendar. This holiday celebrates the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
Eid al-Adha is an opportunity for Muslim families in Canada and across the world to come together in prayer and celebration. The holiday’s focus on forgiveness, compassion and generosity is a reminder of the values that bring all Canadians together.
As we celebrate Canada 150, Eid al-Adha is also an opportunity to recognize the many contributions of Canada’s Muslim communities to our rich and diverse society.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes to all those celebrating Eid al-Adha and congratulate those performing the Hajj this year. Eid Mubarak!
