Statement by Minister Joly on Franco-Ontarian Day
Statement
OTTAWA, September 25, 2018
Today, on Franco-Ontarian Day, Francophones across Ontario celebrate their culture, traditions and language.
Franco-Ontarians make up Canada’s largest French-speaking community outside Quebec. For over 400 years, they have made important contributions to the cultural, social, economic and political life of our country. It is these contributions that we recognize and celebrate today.
September 25 also marks the anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag, which was officially hoisted for the first time in 1975, in Sudbury.
As Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, I wish everyone a happy Franco-Ontarian Day and invite all Canadians to celebrate the important contributions of this community.
