OTTAWA, January 14, 2019
Today, Tamil people in Canada and around the world gather to celebrate Thai Pongal. Traditionally, this festival is a time to gather with family and friends and give thanks for the harvest season.
Celebrated during Tamil Heritage Month, Thai Pongal is an opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the rich Tamil culture and the many contributions Tamil Canadians have made to our society. The Tamil-Canadian community is a shining example of how Canada is enriched by its cultural diversity and how we all benefit from Canada’s spirit of openness and inclusion.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, I would like to wish everyone celebrating Thai Pongal a wonderful festival with family and friends. Iniya Pongal Nalvazhthukkal!
