Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici Celebrates the 150th Anniversary of Its Founding

The Government of Canada is proud to showcase the rich history of our municipalities and to support activities that provide Canadians with access to our heritage.
Rémi Massé, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Member of Parliament (Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia), today announced that Les Loisirs de Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici will receive $26,300 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the municipality. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriquez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism
This financial support, provided under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, will give residents and visitors access to the arts and heritage of this region. They will also be able to discover the history of the municipality, recognized as the gateway to the Matapédia Valley to the northwest.

In 2019, Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding. The municipality bears this name in tribute to Angèle Drapeau, an Italian nun who was the Lady of Lepage-et-Thibierge, a seigneury dating back to the era of New France.

Programming will include music shows, folk dancing, and a comedy and storytelling show. The project also includes the creation of a monograph.
