Mur ouvert et fermé

This sculpture stands near Place du Portage, in Gatineau.

Mur ouvert et fermé and Twist 1.5 are two of three sculptures commissioned in 1978 for urban parks in Canada’s Capital Region.

The public was able to watch artist Yves Trudeau as he created this work in the park where it now stands.

The sculpture plays with the contrast of openness, signifying light and hope, and closure, meaning sorrow and hate (the title means “open and closed wall”).
