Three Forms by the Sea

Three Forms by the Sea is installed at the western end of Portageurs Park, in Gatineau.

These three parabolic forms cast of polished concrete recall rocks shaped by countless years of waves, rain, wind and glacial action. Through their gradations of tone, they evoke the layering of geological deposits over vast periods of time.

Embedded in the earth, the stelas are also meant, according to the artist, to bring peace to troubled human beings whose lives are very short in comparison to the life of the Earth. They ask us to contemplate the brevity of human existence, and to take comfort in the seeming permanence of rocks.

The work was created by Pierre Bourgault in 1984.
