Quick Facts

  • In addition to enforcing Canada’s competition laws, in 2017-18, the Bureau plans to foster conditions for innovation by:

    • Focusing on the digital economy as a key priority. The Bureau will take action against deceptive marketing practices that undermine consumer confidence including hidden fees, fake online reviews and hidden terms and conditions.

    • Publishing a white paper that explores issues related to big data from a competition perspective, and articulates the Bureau’s approach to big data in enforcement matters;

    • Publishing a report on the findings of our market study on technology-led innovation in the Canadian financial services (FinTech) sector; and

    • Continuing work to prevent fraud and bid-rigging on infrastructure projects, and to promote compliance with the law among small and medium-sized businesses.
