International interchange brings changes to senior management

Competition Bureau welcomes Rami Greiss to its executive team
June 29, 2017 – OTTAWA, ON – Competition Bureau
John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to welcome Rami Greiss, Executive General Manager, Merger and Authorisation Review at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to the Competition Bureau on a one-year interchange.
Effective July 18, 2017, Mr. Greiss will take on the position of Senior Deputy Commissioner, Cartels and Deceptive Marketing Practices Branch, replacing Matthew Boswell. Mr. Greiss brings a strong background in the areas of investigations and enforcement of competition matters which will help the Bureau as it continues to deliver on its mandate.
As part of this international interchange, Jeanne Pratt, the Competition Bureau’s Senior Deputy Commissioner, Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch, will join the ACCC as the Executive General Manager, Merger and Authorisation Review. Effective July 4, 2017, Matthew Boswell will assume the role of Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau’s Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch.
This will provide the Bureau’s senior executives with the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the ACCC competition regimes and best practices, share their considerable knowledge, experience and insight about the Bureau’s activities and to continue to refine their expertise in various areas of competition.
The Bureau’s increased participation in both incoming and outgoing staff interchanges is part of its strategic objective of increasing collaboration with its international partners. Exchanges build personal relationships with employees of other agencies around the world, facilitating greater understanding, trust and cooperation in enforcement matters.
The Bureau has participated in exchanges with a number of agencies including: the US Federal Trade Commission; the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development; the European Commission - Directorate General for Competition; the UK’s Office of Fair Trading; France’s Autorité de la concurrence; the ACCC; the Korea Fair Trade Commission; the Competition Commissioner of India; and the Hong Kong Competition Commission.

Rami Greiss is responsible for the ACCC’s merger and authorisation reviews under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. He previously held the positions of Deputy General Counsel in the ACCC’s legal group, General Manager of merger investigations, and General Manager of enforcement operations for the state of Victoria. Prior to joining the ACCC in 2006, he was a competition lawyer with the Australian Government Solicitor.

Jeanne Pratt first joined the Bureau in 2009 as Special Legal Advisor to the Commissioner where she provided strategic input on a range of issues, including the conduct of litigation. She served in the position of Associate Deputy Commissioner, Criminal Matters Branch, and became Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition of the Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch in January 2015.

Matthew Boswell first joined the Bureau in January 2011 as Associate Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Matters Branch as part of a two-year secondment arranged through the Interchange Canada Program. In 2012, he accepted the position of Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition when John Pecman was appointed Commissioner of Competition.
