The never-ending battle: recognizing, rejecting and reporting 365 days a year!

News release

March 29, 2018 – OTTAWA, ON – Competition Bureau

March and Fraud Prevention Month are coming to an end, but the fight against fraud continues!

You don’t need to be the world’s greatest detective or have super strength to join our team of fraud-fighting superheroes. Recognizing, rejecting and reporting fraud is all about being informed: knowledge is power. Add the Bureau’s antifraud resources to your utility belt and stay on guard for unsolicited offers, suspicious calls and products that seem too good to be true – they just might be scams.

Jump into action and help law enforcement stay one step ahead of scammers:

  • The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is a one-stop-shop to report fraud. They will direct complaints to the appropriate law enforcer.
  • If your friends or family have been the victim of misleading advertising or other deceptive
marketing practices, they can file a complaint with the Bureau.
  • If your loved ones lost money to fraudsters, they should contact their local police.

The Competition Bureau thanks the members of the Fraud Prevention Forum, the Canadians who contributed to Fraud Prevention Month 2018 (#FPM2018) as well as the members of the media who helped spread our message. Together, we reached millions of Canadians!

Quotes

“During Fraud Prevention Month, we successfully raised fraud awareness by working with over 100 organizations and the media. Canada, help us continue the fight – report any suspected fraud.”

Commissioner of Competition
