Competition Bureau fulfills its 2015-2018 Strategic Vision

News release

Three-year plan focused on delivering the benefits of a competitive marketplace to Canadians

May 25, 2018 – OTTAWA, ON – Competition Bureau

The Competition Bureau issued an impact report today highlighting key results achieved for Canadians by delivering on its 2015-2018 Strategic Vision.

Highlights include an estimated $8.4 billion in consumer savings, more than $19 million in customer restitution, and more than $60 million in fines and penalties imposed by the courts for anti-competitive conduct and deceptive marketing practices.

The report provides a summary of accomplishments under the five strategic objectives that guided the Bureau’s work from 2015-2018. These include increasing compliance with Canada’s competition laws, empowering Canadian consumers, promoting competition, collaborating with domestic and international partners, and championing organizational excellence.

I’m very proud of how we pulled together to deliver on the Bureau’s first three-year strategic plan. We worked hard to become a more transparent and effective agency that continues to defend and promote competition and innovation for the benefit of all Canadians.

John Pecman,
Commissioner of Competition
