Competition Bureau publishes highlights from recent Data Forum

August 30, 2019 – OTTAWA, ON – Competition Bureau

The Competition Bureau issued a report today summarizing the discussions that took place at the Data Forum in Ottawa on May 30, 2019. The Bureau organized the Forum to foster exchanges on the evolving issues competition enforcers face in the rapidly growing digital economy.

The Data Forum Report summarizes valuable insights provided by key stakeholders on the competition issues and possible solutions in areas such as:

  • the role of antitrust in keeping pace with digital platforms
  • privacy as a potential dimension of competition
  • data portability and interoperability
  • the regulatory and enforcement landscape within a rapidly evolving economy

More than 100 participants from Canada and abroad attended the Forum, including representatives from the business, legal and academic communities, federal regulators and foreign competition authorities.

The Bureau is determined to continue anticipating and investigating emerging issues of the digital economy to ensure consumers can receive the full benefits of a competitive and innovative marketplace.
