Why was the policy changed?

A technical amendment was made to this policy to clarify a responsibility of all health care professionals. The policy now makes clear that health care professionals, including those providing services under contract, are responsible for patient advocacy.

What has changed?

The following statement has been added to the policy:

Consistent with the requirements of their professional health regulatory colleges, health care professionals, including those providing services under contract, will use their expertise and influence to advocate on behalf of patients for provision of care that advances their health and well-being.
