Why was the policy developed?

To ensure that any use of the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is compliant with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in effect with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)/National Police Services (NPS) and is lawful and in accordance with the requirements of the CPIC Policy Manual and the CPIC User Manual.

A new policy was developed to ensure that the departmental security program and activities adhere to Treasury Board policies.

This policy was created by the Departmental Security Division in cooperation with the Strategic Policy Division as well as internal and external stakeholders.
