Commissioner’s Directive (CD) 564-5 – Access to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC)

To ensure that any use of the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is compliant with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in effect with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)/National Police Services (NPS) and is lawful and in accordance with the requirements of the CPIC Policy Manual and the CPIC User Manual.

The CD, promulgated on 2018-01-15, was technically amended to clarify two aspects:

- para. 18 – the removal of sub-section b. “CSC Official Visitors” as the institution is no longer permitted to conduct a CPIC search and d. “CSC Unregistered Volunteer (for scenario in which the volunteer is not registered in the volunteer resource management database)” as these individuals will now be identified or treated as official visitors;

- para. 23 – the precision that community members are to use form 1279-01 to receive permission and conduct a CPIC check.

This policy was created by the Departmental Security Division in cooperation with the Strategic Policy Division.

This policy applies to all authorized staff who use the CPIC system.
